NEXT YEAR’S PRODUCTION

After our Summer break members are once again looking forward to our next production for 2007 ‘The Yeomen of the Guard’. We will be performing once again at The Maddermarket Theatre and the show will run from 2^nd- 5^th May 2007 and we look forward to seeing all our friends old and new there. Rehearsals are under way under the baton of Eric James our Musical Director, accompanied on the piano by his wife, Judith.

THE GONDOLIERS

Our second production at The Maddermarket earlier this year was again very well received. Once more, sincere thanks to all those who helped with the show in any way, including (especially!) our friends who provided us with the most welcome refreshments every night and despite the odd (and to be expected) hiccup all went smoothly and the good feeling of camaraderie was very much in evidence.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Our AGM was held on Tuesday 5^th September. Listed below are the present committee and their contact details. Please do not hesitate to contact any one of them if you have any concerns or good ideas that would benefit the Society.

Welcome to Anna Kirby who has been co-opted onto the Committee as our Youth Member. She has lots of ideas for social events so if you have any thoughts please contact Anna.

Tony Mallion whom many of you will know from Radio Norfolk has very kindly agreed to be our new Vice-President and we extend a very warm welcome to him and look forward to seeing him at some of our social events, his work schedule permitting.

In the event that you are unable to attend a rehearsal please tender your apologies as soon as possible to enable the smooth running of the rehearsals.

Following some confusion at the AGM as to whether Patrons have the right to vote, this matter has been looked into by the Committee and it can be confirmed that Patrons DO have the right to vote. Our apologies for any misunderstanding.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

These are due now so please remember to ‘pay up’, bearing in mind that unless your subscription is up to date you will not be covered by our insurance should you unhappily have an accident.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

WROXHAM BARNS have again invited us to sing Christmas carols at their special Open Evening on Thursday 23^rd November. This is a great evening and we are usually provided with snacks! We start at 6.00pm but please do not be put off by the early start, just join us when you can.

ST. NICHOLAS CHURCH, GREAT YARMOUTH would like us to do a 2 hour slot of Gilbert & Sullivan and Christmas Carols on Sunday 3^rd December, probably between 1.00pm and 3.00pm. We are awaiting confirmation of the exact time. This is a beautiful church just behind the Market Place. It is the largest Parish church in the U.K. and has wonderful acoustics. Janet Grant will have the timings nearer the date.

Our CHRISTMAS PARTY will be on Tuesday 19^th December and will have the usual format of a rehearsal until our tea interval… and then the party starts with perhaps a few songs if we feel like it!! We reconvene on Tuesday 9^th January 2007 for rehearsals.

The NEW YEAR PARTY is on Saturday 13^th January 2007. Tickets are £6.50 each, bring your own drink and Sheila Tuffield is the person to contact.

Phoenix Opera are presenting an evening with Offenbach at the Norwich Playhouse on Friday 10^th November at 7.30pm and Saturday 11^th November at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

The show consists of a slightly shortened version of Orpheus in the Underworld and Not in Front of the Waiter. The producer is Margaret Collingwood and several ENOS members including Pam & Den, Ros & Clive, Sue Butcher, Pat Tegerdine, John Bill, Robert Collingwood and Alan Weyman are taking part.

Margaret is singing in Not in Front of the Waiter and Eric James is the Musical Director. Tickets are £10.50 available tickets@phoenixopera.org.uk with special prices for group bookings for the matinee.

Sheringham Savoyards Autumn concert is Utopia Ltd and they will be performing it on 24^th and 25^th November at 7.30pm at Sheringham Little Theatre. Box Office: 01263 822347 for tickets at £7 each.

Theatre 101 Due to the closure of RAF Coltishall earlier this year, the amateur dramatics group Theatre 101 were forced to leave their home at the Station Theatre. Members of the group were keen to keep the Club going and are now rehearsing for their next production. The group have been lucky enough to secure the use of the Norwich Puppet theatre and are very pleased to announce that their first show in the city will be the popular traditional pantomime ‘The Sleeping Beauty’, written by Linelight Scripts. ‘Dame Thyme’s family have hit on hard times, and she and her don Justin have been surviving on a diet of beetroot for months. Justin is sent off to the village to pawn his mother’s wedding ring, and there he meets Princess Nightingale the beautiful daughter of the toffee-nosed King Rolo, who is masquerading as a villager in order to escape the attentions of the evil witch Zendora. The action heats up with the preparations for the royal ball, and the feuding cooks Salt and Pepper play out a vigorous slapstick kitchen scene with comic villains Sage and Onion, in a hilarious send-up of the ‘Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook’ TV programme, refereed by the foppish royal valet. There’s an ever present cardboard box, the contents of which keep everyone guessing and involves the audience in the ‘What’s in the box Walter’ routine. The climactic conclusion is when Dame Thyme’s dark secret is finally revealed.’ This family pantomime has plenty of comedy, and hopefully, audience participation.

The show runs from Thursday 30^th November until Saturday 2^nd December at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets are £7 for adults, £5 for concessions (children, OAPs, and UB40). A family ticket (2 adults & 2 children or 1 adult & 3 children) is available for £20. Book, by contacting the Puppet theatre on 01603 629921.

HATS will be performing ‘Robinson Crusoe & the Pirates’ at Horning Village Hall from 18^th-20th January 2007 at 7.30pm and Sunday 21^st at 2.30pm. Tickets are £6 and £5 for concessions. Tickets from members of the cast. There are several ENOS members involved i.e. Robin, Anne, Marion, Graham, Vivienne, Gennie, Larry so let’s give them our support.

LOOKING AHEAD 2009 is the Society’s 50^th Anniversary. We hope to hold some special celebrations including a concert, Riverboat Trip, or a trip to a Show in London, and/or a Dinner. If anyone has any thoughts or ideas please contact any of the Committee Members.
