East Norfolk Operatic Society

Newsletter - Spring 2008

Hello and welcome to our new second newsletter! We hope that you enjoyed the first new-look edition back in November and plan to make issues bigger and better - with your help, of course, as news can only be generated by you, the patrons and members.
This time, we have a caption competition (!) and a photo of a dashing Gondolier - but can you guess who? No prizes for this one!

To keep us all informed of useful and interesting news items, please forward them to the Editors, Ros Wright and Clive Swetman. Details of how to contact us can be found on the Contacts page, along with the Committee details.

With our best wishes
Ros and Clive

This newsletter and other up to date information is available from our website at:

Eagled eyed readers will note that Ian Roberson, who had been cast as the Solicitor, has had to withdraw from the show. His place has been taken by Colin Plunkett, husband of Vivienne and father to Gennie and Matthew. As we have said before, ENOS produces shows for all the family!

Rehearsals have been going well under the direction of Andy, Julie and Stella. The men have also benefitted from the drilling of local historian, Neil Storey, who has made soldiers of each one of them! As we would expect from Team Weston, the usual traditional version is laced with their own special touches.

Tickets are selling well so if you haven't got yours yet, telephone The Maddermarket Box Office on 01603 620917 to book.

The Mikado 2009
By the time the next newsletter is published, the cast will have been announced for the 2009 production, what a thought! The Society will be celebrating its Golden Anniversary and the Committee is already hard at work planning events to mark fifty years of productions. More details to follow......

And who can this be?
No prizes but he's looking Good!
Ernie

It is probably some time since a newsletter has reported the sadness of a death, as well as the joy of a birth and two forthcoming marriages. ENOS was shocked to learn of the recent death of Margaret Johnson. Margaret and her husband Dennis had been the musical team for the Society from 1984-1999, Dennis as MD and Margaret as the stalwart accompanist. We send our sincere condolences to Dennis and the family.

On 4 April, Teresa Cardene gave birth to son William James at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital. Congratulations to John and Teresa, not only on the safe arrival of William but also on the announcement of their wedding planned for Friday 27 June 2008.

Finally, the second wedding is that of your editors on 31 May.

Bits and Pieces
Thanks to Robert and Margaret Collingwood for hosting the post rehearsal Christmas Party on 18 December, a great time was had by all!

Another big thank you to Patrick and Mrs Monk for welcoming us to their home for 26 January New Year celebration Party. Another lovely evening was enjoyed by members old and new.

As for the summer, we have a cocert booked at Martham church on 28 June at 7.30 (funnily enough, John and Teresa won't be joining us!). Musical Director will be David Kett.

Finally.... best wishes to Graham Anderton who has undergone a hip replacement operation and to Julie Weston who is recovering from a knee op!
